Geospace International
Geospace is based in Seattle. Up until 1993, its best-known products were GEOSPACE Magnetic Marbles and other related products that included games, building sets, and action sets for adults and kids. Although Magnetic Marbles are still a large part of our business, now we're receiving a ton of worldwide notoriety for our expansive line of SPIN games.
The original WORD SPINĀ® travel game was created in 1994 by Dennis Binkley, the president of Geospace, and his Product Design Team. Using the earlier magnetic products as a springboard, the team came up with the idea of small magnetized disks, each with several flat sides (or facets) on them. Letters were printed on each of the facets, and each disk was given a different set of letters. Several disks, held together by magnetic energy, could be easily spun in either direction, and their position within a group of disks could be easily changed. Each letter was given a different numerical value. By spinning and changing the order of the disks (from two to several), a person can form words of different values. WORD SPIN was born, and the rest, as they say, is history.
